OVI checkpoint aims to curb impaired driving on West Main Street

Zanesville, OH- The Ohio State Highway Patrol, working with the Zanesville Police Department and Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, will operate an OVI checkpoint from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday on West Main Street in Muskingum County.

The checkpoint, funded by federal grant money, is intended to deter and intercept impaired drivers. Officers will also conduct nearby saturation patrols aimed at reducing injury and fatal crashes linked to impaired driving, according to a press release from the patrol.

“If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink,” the release stated. “Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.”
