Community Unites to Help family of Rachael Strong

Community members rallied together today to honor a woman who lost to her battle with cancer.

A spaghetti dinner along with a silent auction fundraiser took place at the West Muskingum Athletic Booster Hall Saturday to help raise money toward medical costs and a headstone for Rachael Strong who died February 9th from Leukemia.

"It’s amazing how people can band together when a tragedy strikes. If we could only band together like that everyday in our lives, it would be a great place to live," said Mellissa Kanavel, the fundraiser coordinator.

31-year old Racheal Strong had been battling Leukemia for the last two years before she passed. Friends and family members say she was known for her smile, peaceful energy and her spirit to keep going.

"We want to help let others know that no matter what, keep up the fight. My daughter, until the day she took her last breathe she fought. She fought so strong and she said i’m going to be healed. She was healed, just not the way we wanted her to be healed," said Lisa Dovenbarger, mother of Rachael Strong.

Lisa said if you or a loved one is going through the battle with Leukemia and needs someone to talk to she is here for help and support visit Rachael Strong’s memorial facebook page: My Journey with Leukemia.
