Local bars present checks for breast cancer research

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Two local bars presented checks to the American Cancer Society Wednesday afternoon.
Last month, for breast cancer awareness The Barn and Lucky’s Bar both teamed up with Matesich Distributing, Yuengling and the American Cancer Society to raise funds for the Strides Against Breast Cancer.
The Strides Against Breast Cancer movement supports breast cancer research.
“We are here to all work together and find a cure for cancer,” said Scott Sole, Yuengling Brand Manager at Matesich Distributing.
For every Yuengling product that was sold, 50 cents of that went back to the American Cancer Society.
Jonathan Schuler, Community Manager for American Cancer Society said they had a good turnout at each of the bar events.
“It’s really good because we hit a new audience that may not always be aware or active in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement,” said Schuler.
The Barn owner, Jim Watson, said it was great to be a part of the community.
“And be able to be part of a great cause like this, to be able to give back to the community and help people out that are less fortunate,” said Watson. “Cancer’s a terrible disease that pretty much everybody knows somebody that’s had to fight.”
Senior Marketing Manager of Community Engagement for the American Cancer Society, John Largent said he enjoyed seeing the benefit of the movement.
“Just to see survivors as well as be at the event and to see the progress that we have made to help them continue to have a good quality of life was great,” said Largent.
Matesich Distributing contributed prizes for the fundraiser raffles and each bar.
The Barn raised $1,675 and Lucky’s Bar raised $2,100.
