SOMERSET, OH- The streets of Somerset were filled with red, white and blue today as the 41st Annual Somerset Community Celebration kicked off with a patriotic parade at 11 a.m. The parade wrapped around Main Street and led the crowd to Somerset Memorial Park, where the rest of the day’s festivities unfolded.

The free community event, made possible by local business sponsorships and donations, offered a full day of family focused fun. From a car show and corn hole tournament to live music, inflatables and fireworks, there was something for everyone.

“It’s more of a family event than anything because all of my family is involved with it, my daughter and her brother grew up in this, their kids are now getting involved with it, my best friend who passed away, his kids grew up here in it and they’re all a part of it, so it’s just a big family entity,” said Dennis Kessler, Somerset Community Celebration President.

At the heart of the event is a deep sense of tradition and pride.

“I didn’t know anything other than this event for the 4th of July, I was actually stationed in New Mexico one year, after I got back stateside from Germany we drove 24 hours for this event, this is our community and its independence for me,” said Annette Moore, Somerset Community Celebration Assistant Chairman.

As the sun set, families gathered for a spectacular fireworks display to cap off the day.
