Muskingum County Sheriff Gets Funding To Fight Against Terror

Muskingum County Sheriff Gets Funding To Fight Against TerrorZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office is being proactive in the fight against domestic terrorism.

With the help from county commissioners and the Law Enforcement State Homeland Security Program, the Sheriff’s office is able to purchase items such as live scan booking stations, license plate readers, and explosive detecting K-9s just to name a few to help combat domestic terror.

“We’re kind of like a big brother to some of the smaller agencies in the region, because some of them can’t afford to have that stuff. We’ve been very fortunate. Commissioners worked very with us with our budget,” said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.

Sheriff Lutz stressed the importance of preparation and being proactive when it comes to the danger of terrorism.

“I can’t stress enough how much the smaller communities are playing apart in the terrorism. People don’t quite understand that law enforcement across the United States is the front line to domestic terrorism. They are not only the ones coming into contact with a lot these people, they are the ones that are going to be the first responders if something happens. The more we can do to help our first responders prepare the better off we are,” said Lutz.

In 2015 the Ohio Homeland Security Region 8 was given $100,000 grant to help aid in the fight against terror.
