United Way Partners with Grace United Methodist for Community Cupboard Drive
ZANESVILLE, OH – Two organizations are coming together for a good cause.
Every third Thursday of the month, Grace United Methodist Church hosts their Community Cupboard where people are able to come and get some of the essential items they need, at no cost.
The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties is partnering with the Church to collect items as well as monetary donations from now until the end of the month.
Renee Ward, the Grace Community Cupboard Director, talked about how the cupboard works and what items they are in need of.
“Each month a person or family is allowed to come in and they can get personal items such as shampoo, deodorant, things like that based on their family size, if they have a child in diapers we give them diapers and wipes as well,” Ward said. “They also receive detergent, dryer sheets, all purpose cleaner, toilet paper, paper towels, so quite a lot. But having some miscellaneous items as well, that might supplement some of the things that they don’t have on the items to get.”
Alyssa Moore, the Community Impact Coordinator at the United Way, says those miscellaneous items could be brooms, dustpans, mops, buckets, pet supplies, or reusable bags.
She said this drive and partnership helps to show how much both organizations prioritize the health and wellbeing of their community members.
“I think that this drive just helps us showcase how much we want to impact people’s health, their financial stability and that’s obviously in a great community like the United Way of MPM’s mission and standpoint,” Moore said. “We’re so lucky to be able to have a partnership with Grace Community Cupboard and it was a very smart partnership for us, to be able to invest in the Community Cupboard.”
