Mock Crash Warns Teens of the Dangers of Impaired Driving

750 area seniors watched as sirens blared and emergency crews arrived to the scene of a two car head-on collision at the Zanesville campus of Mid-East for a mock crash.

The performance was narrated by Sheriff Matt Lutz and organized by students in the ‘Students Against Destructive Decisions Club’ who acted during the crash along with local law enforcement, ambulance services, fire departments and med flights personnel. The event takes place every- other year on the day before prom.

“It was scary times and but, I could not live with myself if I did anything to my best friend. I don’t know what I would do but, I am never going to do anything bad to get in trouble with the cops or anything so, I encourage everyone to be good just to stay out of trouble,” said Haley Savage, Mock-Driver, John Glenn High School.

Olivia played the role of a back seat passenger riding with her friends when a drunk driver crashed into them killing her best friend.

“I was sitting back there trying to wake my best friend up and she was there acting dead. It’s just scary how the ‘Jaws of Life’ and everything was trying to get us out. Windows were breaking, just all kind of sounds around us was just scary. I don’t want to go through that,” said Olivia Rock, Mock- Passenger, Maysville High School.

The mock crash aims to bring awareness and caution to students to be safe the night of their prom.
