Center for Seniors Renovations Underway
Construction is moving right along on the new Muskingum County Center for Seniors.
Area seniors will call downtown Zanesville home in just a few short months. Commissioner, Jim Porter, said they’re one step closer to having the final design plans approved, and hope to have doors open by the end of August.
“We’ve got the asbestos removed, the elevator shaft is being repaired now, they dug a huge hole in preparation for it, they’ve been pouring concrete,” Porter said.
In the early stages of development, there were concerns about change among the seniors. Executive Director, Ann Combs, said the only major difference is the new center is a two-floor facility, which will have its benefits.
“That will be good in some ways in the fact that we will be able to utilize that space much more efficiently than what we are in our current space, with the wide open space we weren’t necessarily able to do a lot of things at one time, where we’ll be able to break down into smaller rooms and accommodate more services,” Combs said.
The new building sits at the corner of Shinnick and 4th Streets in the heart of downtown Zanesville. Construction is expected to be complete by August 31.
