Local Law Enforcement Connects with Families at Zanesville’s First National Night Out

ZANESVILLE, OH – A first of its kind event in Zanesville gave residents a chance to meet with those who protect and serve the community.

The National Night Out event took place Tuesday night at Secrest Auditorium, where the Zanesville Police Department, the Muskingum County Sheriffs Office, State Highway Patrol, and other local businesses all came together for a good cause.

“It’s huge for our community. It’s huge for our kids.” Captain Matt McCauley with the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office said. “You know, some of those kids come from troubled homes. And law enforcement has a bad image. Maybe, as is, they’re growing up, and i think this is something that we can do that small that can maybe change that opinion of that person or that family”

Kids had a chance to get an up close look at some law enforcement vehicles as well as meet members of the K-9 units

Those in attendance couldn’t help but look up in the sky as the sheriff’s office had its high tech drones on display.

“It’s good to have been aware and then to see the officers are friendly, but they’re still here to do their job.” Said Attendee, Misty Palmer. “And that way they can get a feel of what they’re here for, who they are, and know that they’re there to help them out when they need to.”

The Zanesville Police Department also held their ‘stuff the cruiser’ project with all donations of back to school supplies benefitting the students at Zane Grey Elementary.
