The YMCA celebrates the season with a Spooky Sprint and Fall Fest

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County YMCA is planning to start October strong with their annual Spooky Sprint and Fall Fest.
The local YMCA starts the morning of Oct. 4 with a Spooky Sprint featuring a 5k and a 1-mile family run/walk on the Collegial Woods trail starting at 9:30 a.m. The Halloween celebrations continues at 11 a.m. at the YMCA for Fall Fest featuring free activities of all kinds and some fun competitions.
“It’s a free event so if you can’t make it to the 5k, it’s ok to still come to the Fall Fest. We have a chili cook-off which we have openings for that if you can make a killer chili please sign up,” said Sarah Savage, Health and Wellness Director at the YMCA. “And then we have open swim, it’s open to the public, you do not have to be a member for this. That will go on until 1 p.m. There’ll be pumpkin painting, a bounce house, all that kind of stuff. ”
Entry fees for the Spooky Sprint and chili cook-off help to financially support the Y on the Fly program.
“So all the sponsorships, and again thank you for all the sponsorships to, you know, help make this happen. We do a Y on the Fly program which if you see this cute little van running around, this is what we do. We go to like senior centers, I send instructors there to teach classes to help with giving back to the community and keeping into fitness. And we also do kids parks during the summers, schools and stuff like that. So all the proceeds from this 5k will go to the Y on the Fly program,” Savage said.
