Putnam Neighborhood Historical Tour

Putnam Presbyterian Church Educates Locals On Its Rich History

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Preserving history offers future generations glimpses into the conditions people experienced before limitations were overcome.

Muskingum County History Executive Director Larisa Harper invited the public to participate in an upcoming historical home and business tour that will take place in the Putnam neighborhood.

“Well, we know that there were historical tours many years ago but we haven’t had any in recent years. In fact, we can’t really remember when the last one was. So this is almost a first annual sort of event. And it’s different because we’re including historical homes, businesses, organizations, museums, churches from the Putnam Historical District,” Harper said.

The tour will feature historic architectures and landscaping that reveal how designing has diversified over generations of occupants. And you may even get to witness the evolution of Christmas decorations.

“We’ll have music, we’ll have prizes, a raffle, we’ll have kids activities and lots of treats, snacks and drinks,” Harper said. “There will be a map that people can purchase. They can pick that up at the Matthews House, The Dr. Increase Matthews House on Woodlawn or they can pick it up at our Archives Building at 462 Putnam. So they can start at one of those locations, pick up a map and go visit these places.”

The tour will take place from 2-to-6 p.m. Thursday, December 13th. Participating tour locations will have signs posted to verify their involvement. More information can be found online.
