ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Election night came and went with outcomes that greatly affect the community like the Muskingum County Children Services and Avondale Renewal Levy.

The levy passed with 62% of the vote and will continue the 2 mill levy for ten years. That means $36 a year per $100,000 of your property’s appraised value. According to the executive director of Muskingum County Adult and Child Protective Services, Candy Emmert, this levy accounts for 40% of their annual budget.

“We are feeling especially grateful this morning. At the Muskingum Adult and Child Protective Services we believe that there are few missions as important as working with our community to protect children from abuse and neglect,” Emmert said. “We know that together with the community we work to not only protect children but to try to keep children in their own home with their parents and caregivers who love them.”

The funds raised by this levy also fund the Avondale Youth Center which provides a comprehensive therapeutic intervention program to youth who have been abused/neglected or abandoned in Muskingum County.

“So, on behalf of our team, we want to say thank you to the community for supporting the levy so we can continue our work in protecting those most vulnerable. We believe that with the passage of the levy we have the resources we need to continue protecting children and strengthening families. So we thank everyone, a lot, in the community,” Emmert said.
