ATHENS, OH – Maybe nobody around Athens celebrated a better holiday than John Hauser. On Tuesday, December the 23rd, the then interim head coach led the Bobcats to a 17-10 victory over UNLV in the “Scooter’s Coffee” Frisco Bowl, the program’s ninth straight bowl win.

The day after Christmas, Hauser lost the interim tag from his title. After rallying calls from his players after the game, and an impressive postseason performance, the school’s athletic department has promoted Hauser as the team’s permanent head coach, the 31st in program history.

“John is committed to developing our team while continuing to build on the strong foundation. The success is evident since he arrived on campus in 2022” says Director of Athletics, Slade Larscheid.

“I am grateful to President Lory Gonzalez and Director of Athletics Slade Larscheid for the opportunity to lead this team and for their belief in what we can accomplish together” says Hauser, who also thanked players, alumni, and Bobcat nation.

“This is a special place for my family and me, and we are proud to be part of a community that cares so deeply about Ohio University and its football program.”

Hauser was the interim head coach for a total of 2025 days after serving as the defensive coordinator for the previous three seasons. He took the position once former head coach Brian Smith was put on leave at the beginning of the month.

He is expected to speak to the media once the calendar turns over.
