City of Zanesville 2025 Year in Review

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – As we look back on 2025, much has been accomplished in the City of Zanesville and Mayor Don Mason rehashes some of the work that went into making them possible.

Topics that were discussed include: housing, transportation, recreation and neighborhood improvement.

“The city has been aggressively pursuing more housing,” Mason said. “Whether you’re talking about workforce development housing or single family homes or townhouses, condominiums, things of that nature because people in their older years sometimes want to downsize from a single family home into something that is less maintenance oriented.”

The city has worked with multiple agencies to address the many facets of the housing issue that ultimately leads to a reinvestment by improving community image and morale. But transportation infrastructure has also been a key concern.

“Probably the biggest project that received a lot of public acclaim was the 2024-2025 construction of Dug Road,” Mason said. “That has really helped move traffic out of the downtown. And traffic’s now able to go over the Y-Bridge and State Street Bridge over Dug Road to get to areas around… if they need to get to 60, 22 or areas to the south.”

Mayor Mason also spoke about the $30 Million dollar revitalization of the Downtown, which includes modernization of the Secrest Auditorium and the John McIntire Library. Lastly, much effort has went into creating and renovating public parks, which offer more convenient opportunities for recreation closer to home.
