Wheeling Avenue will be extended in Cambridge

The city of Cambridge will receive $400,000 from Ohio’s Department of Development for an upcoming road project.
Funds from the Roadwork Development Grant will help the city extend Wheeling Avenue from the 3rd Street intersection to the intersection of Stuebenville Avenue and 2nd Street. This project is part of the deal with Ohio Bridge, doing business as U.S. Bridge, which is expanding operations in Cambridge with a new plant.
“City Council approved U.S. Bridge, Ohio Bridge, construct over Gomber Avenue. Part of that agreement was to extend a second route around that area in case Stueben Avenue is ever down, that we can still, our public can still get to the downtown from the west side.”
Nick Cunningham, the city engineer, said the news of securing the grant was great to hear. He went on to say that any money that can help support businesses is always a great opportunity.
“This project is extremely important to the community. Ohio Bridge expects to add 41 employees in the area. So, I think it’s a vitally important project for the city and for Ohio Bridge.”
Engineering and planning for the extension starts this year, with the roadwork itself starting next year.
