Ernest Brock

Ernest “Duane” Brock, lifetime resident of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away at the age of 86 on Sunday Jun 14. He was born to Clarence and Belva (Reed) Brock on Jun 3 1940. He passed through heaven’s gates in the arms of his adoring and beloved wife, Patty. Duane lived a full and rewarding life centered on family, hard work, community service, and his passions for racing and golf.
He was a member of the Adamsville High School graduating class of 1958. After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart Patty Ann Hatfield. Together they had two children and created a loving family who will miss him deeply.
Duane retired from Ray Thomas LumberTown after 40+ years of dedicated service. During his tenure there, Duane established lasting relationships with area home builders who relied on his expertise for figuring complex roof pitches and complicated floor plans. He could proactively identify issues on a set of blueprints that would later save the builder time and money during construction.
He was a member of the Adamsville Global Methodist Church and was a proud Freemason with Lodge 79. He selflessly gave back through humanitarian mission work with the Three Rivers Mission group, serving in North Carolina, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Alabama. At times, he focused those same efforts closer to home by donating countless hours and energy to Habitat for Humanity in his local community.
In his younger years, Duane partnered with Larry Nelson in the Brock-Nelson racing team. They took their 1955 Chevrolet to notable success when they won the NHRA Summer Nationals Super Stock in 1972 where they were awarded with the prestigious “Wally.” The same year, this team was runner up in the NHRA World FInals in Indianapolis IN where they set a world record for elapsed time in their class.
He was an avid golfer who made lasting memories on the course, including two holes-in-one at Eaglesticks Golf Course and the 15th hole at Green Valley Golf Course in 2015.
Duane was deeply devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He enthusiastically supported his grandchildren at their various sporting events, and was proud of the young citizens they all have become.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patty Ann Hatfield Brock, who he married on Feb 1, 1959; his son Doug and his wife Kathy; his daughter Christy Fargus and her husband Brian; two granddaughters – Kelsey Mobley and her husband Mike; Kalie Fahrnbach and her husband Connor; two grandsons — Brock Fargus and his fiancé Emily Nash; and Luke Fargus and his fiancé Delaney Zimmerman; and two great grandsons – Ryan and Kameron Mobley.
Duane was the last survivor of six siblings in his family – Eleanor Culbertson, Clarence “Junior” Brock, Frederick Brock, Delbert Brock, and Gerald Brock.
Duane’s life exemplified commitment to family, community, and quiet service. His memory will live on through those he loved and the many lives he touched.
