Legos used as more than just toys

NEWARK, Ohio – At OSU Newark on Saturday a love for Legos turned into a competitive tournament.
16 teams from all across central Ohio competed in the district tournament of the FIRST Lego League. Kids ages nine through 14 used creativity and engineering to design Lego robots that competed against one another and were given grades for their performances. Assistant tournament director Cameron Richards said it’s a great way to learn while having fun.
“It’s something that we want kids to become engaged in and see that it’s more that just a toy. We want kids to see how to engineer and learn with this,†said Richards.
The winners of today’s district tournament advance to the state tournament in Dayton next month. Richards said the skills they use today will help them as they further their education.
“I did this when I was their age. And now that I’m in college I can defiantly say that it helped me learn a lot,†said Richards.
