ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A year ago, Muskingum University launched its MLK Days of Service initiative to honor the legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The venture was created to foster personal value amongst their students, faculty and staff through public service and community engagement.

“We’re fortunate enough to be a part of today’s scholarship breakfast,” Muskingum University Head Basketball Coach Nathan Wahle said. “But the university has multiple groups across the board, who take different days to find ways to give back to the community. It’s just our way of showing thanks to our community for what they do for us and for our university. It’s a… you know, feel it’s the least we can do to give back.”

Wahle noted that selflessness and gratitude are key virtues that are employed by his players to represent their university and that nobody better represented those qualities than Dr. King.

“The Zanesville Muskingum Community, they do so much to support us. So it’s just really nice to give back at an event like this that means so much,” Muskingum University Junior Reed Coconis said. “It means everything to me. You know, pouring back into the community and just being able to help them the best way I can. It just means a lot,”  Muskingum University Sophomore Philip Towns added.

Zanesville High School JV Basketball Coach Brady Palmer along with students from the Zanesville High School boys and girls basketball teams were also on hand to help make the event run as seamless as possible.
