ZANESVILLE, Ohio- It is officially 4-H week in the city of Zanesville.

The Muskingum County Commissioners proclaimed February 12th through 18th as 4-H week Monday afternoon.

Michelle Fehr, Muskingum County 4-H Extension Educator, said this is important for the program.

“[The Commissioners], they really want to make sure that they’re supporting something that’s helping the future of this county,” said Fehr. “I think its important for us because that way the community knows that the commissioners are behind us that they’re supporting us in what we are doing.”

In addition to the proclamation, the Courthouse will fly the 4-H flag all week and will be lit up green in honor of one of the official 4-H colors. According to Muskingum County 4-H, green is nature’s most common color that represents youth, life and growth. Their complementing color, white, is a symbolization of purity and high ideals that stands by their mission.

“By developing our young people today into capable, competent, caring and contributing citizens, which is part of our mission, we are making sure that we’re developing a positive future for Muskingum County,” said Fehr.

They currently have roughly 1,650 children that are in their community club program and a number of other children that benefit from their school and camping programs, according to Fehr.

4-H will feature events throughout the week and have a complete list on their website www.muskingum.osu.edu/events.
