The MCAC needs your help building a cultural asset map

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Arts Council (MCAC) is compiling a cultural asset map and seeking community input. The arts council is creating the cultural assets map to showcase artistic and historical assets within Muskingum County. Executive Director Joshua Prentice discusses the ways a map like this can be a useful public tool.
“First off, we want to know, for instance, if a artist or if a business might have something we can borrow,” Prentice said. “An audio system, have a stage we need to use, if they have an event space we want to use, all that kind of stuff is good to sort of collect data from, that sort of perspective, to see what people, not just the arts council but any artistic endeavour might want to use to create are.”
The Muskingum County Arts Council needs help compiling the information for the cultural assets map and is asking for the community to visit the website and fill out a quick questionnaire about cultural assets in the county. Kailyn Shalosky is the program associate for the council and highlights another form that community members can fill out.
“Alongside the cultural asset map, we’re also doing an independent artist registry,” Shalosky said. “And that’s mostly because if people are doing it out of their house, we don’t want to publicize their address for example. But, there’s a lot of independent artists in the county, and making sure they’re able to be accessed too is important.”
Both forms take less than 5 minutes to fill out and can be found on their website at ArtsMuskingum.com. You can follow the Muskingum County Arts Council on Facebook to keep up with the latest from the non-profit.
