ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The American government was established as a representative republic and when functioning properly, successful communication abounds.

Senator Jon Husted’s Southeast Regional Director Bryn Stepp met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to gather their concerns and apprise them to the efforts her office is making on behalf of the Muskingum County Residents.

“As Southeast Regional Director, I cover 24 counties for Senator Husted in the Southeast region of the state,” Stepp said. “That’s a little more than a quarter of the state. And I get the opportunity to travel across the region, talking about the initiatives that are important to Senator Husted and more importantly, listening to the folks on the ground. What concerns they have in each community and each county and reporting those back to Senator Husted.”

The commissioners shared the need for additional grant funding that will allow the county to better prepare for anticipated growth. As well as help in alleviating an overburdened judicial system.

“And then I shared with them some of the things that are important to Senator Husted, such as the Upward Mobility Act, which is a piece of legislation that he recently put forth that is going to level out the Benefits Cliff. It’s a five state pilot program that will help eliminate the benefits cliff that has trapped folks, Ohioans in poverty,” Stepp said.

Benefits Cliff is the term given, when employees must remain under a certain wage to maintain eligibility for governmental assistance programs that stipulate a maximum income limit.
