Local woman provides prom dresses for girls in need

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Prom season is approaching and one local woman wants to help those in need.
Becky Clawson is on a mission to help girls with their prom dress hunt in the most affordable way. Clawson is the founder of ‘Princess Blessings,’ an event she created to provide prom dresses at no cost for girls who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford one.
“I can remember saving up for my prom dress and not every girl has that opportunity,” said Clawson. “I remember friends of mine borrowing dresses from other girls and I thought how nice would it be if they could just come and shop for a dress and not have to pay for it.”
The event will take place Saturday, March 4th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army on Putnam Avenue.
Clawson said she knows how quickly the expenses can add up and hopes to help local families for girls to still enjoy the occasion.
“So many girls can not afford to go spend four or five hundred dollars on a dress and feel the way that they should feel on their prom night; just so beautiful and feel glamorous like every other girl in the room,” said Clawson.
This is the fourth year for the event. There will be nearly 350 dresses to choose from, some of those being brand new with the tags still on thanks to the many donations she received.
“Money certainly shouldnt keep them from doing that so if they want to feel good about themselves this is just one way that we’re able to help them do that,” said Clawson.
For those who would like to donate dresses they can drop them off at the event or year-round at United Way. More information about the event can be found at their Facebook page, ‘Princess Blessings.’
