ZANESVILLE, OH – St. Patrick’s Day is here but the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be out to make sure parties don’t turn into tragedies.

Kristi Mistovich, the Commander of the Zanesville Post, said the main thing to keep in mind if you plan to drink is to have a sober friend drive you to your next stop.

“We just ask them to plan ahead.” Mistovich said. “I’m a firm believer that 100% of these impaired driver crashes can be preventable if they plan for a ride, or some kind of ride share program, ahead. Just to make sure they’re making it home safe for the holiday.”

Mistovich said the number of impaired driver crashes here in Ohio has decreased over the years, but the Patrol will still be out to make sure everyone has a safe night.

“We are going to heavily enforce the OVI Law, and I think people need to keep in mind that it’s not just alcohol impaired drivers our Troopers are going to be out looking for.” Mistovich said. “They’re going to be out looking for drug impaired drivers as well, or anything that’s going to affect a person’s ability to drive their motor vehicle safely.”

If you see or suspect someone of driving impaired this St. Patrick’s Day, you can report it to the Patrol by dialing #677.
