ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A third grade class at John McIntire Elementary School learned how to be entrepreneurs and give their profit to a non-profit.

About two months ago the third grade class learned how to run their own business and sell t-shirts using Amazon. One of the students, Kaidence Burkett, said they started off their project by designing t-shirts to sell.

“We got to vote on all of our t-shirts that we made and then this one won and then there was another one that won,” said Burkett. “A couple of [the t-shirts] won some ties and stuff and so then we mashed them together. Like the ‘I’ got dotted with a blue devil’s head.”

56 t-shirts were sold on Amazon and the class made almost $600. Burkett said the Animal Shelter Society won majority of the vote to receive the money. Executive Director, Jody Murray, said in return the students are spending some time with the animals.

“We have about 32 students today and it’s kind of exciting because probably over half of them have been to the shelter before,” Murray said. “So they were kind of excited in coming. Coming and visiting the Shelter, I think is a great outing for them.”

The Animal shelter will put the money towards their general fund to keep their programs, building, and supplies running and in stock for another 365 days.
