Cherry Orchards thrives at Farmer’s Market thanks to weather

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The sunshine and warm weather brought quite the crowd out to the Muskingum County Fairgrounds to visit the Farmer’s Market this morning.
One weekly vendor is Cherry Orchards from Crooksville, who said that the improved weather today brought out far more people than opening weekend last week, and helped them sell quite a bit of their inventory.
“We have two green houses that have garden plants, for all your garden plants. We have flowers, this time of year their quite full but we have sold a lot here today. They’re doing very well. They seem to be really interested today in the tuberous begonias, and they were beautiful; most of them have sold,” said Candice Storts, an employee at Cherry Orchards.
While the offerings at the Farmer’s Market aren’t quite as expansive as you might see at the Cherry Orchards farms, they had plenty of flowers and vegetable plants to choose from at their display.

“We have fuchsia, there’s a daisy, double impatiens are really pretty. They’re really nice. We have a lot of different varieties of tomatoes, we have some heirloom tomatoes, we have zucchinis, different melons, cucumbers; we have most of all your garden plants,” added Storts.
Storts said all the flowers they had on display this morning are fine to be planted at this point in the season. She says the only issue would come if we had another hard frost hit, but did not expect that to be the case.
She also added that the crops for this season are looking very good and that there will be an abundance of good apples, peaches, pears, and more available this season.
Cherry Orchards is located off of State Route 666 in Crooksville. The Farmer’s Market, located at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds, is open from 9 a.m. until noon, and runs from the first weekend in May until the last weekend in October.
