ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A new piece of equipment was delivered to the Pioneer School of Zanesville Clay Center on Tuesday.

A crane arrived at the school to carry in a 1,000 pound kiln. A kiln is a box that heats us to about 2,400 degrees and fires ceramics.

Kelsey Duncan, a Resident Director, said this kiln will be instrumental to drawing in local and international artists.

“They’re creating a community arts center that can provide ceramic art classes and opportunities for locals and international artists, said Duncan. In order to accommodate people like that, they have to be able to have equipment that can draw people from all over the world.”

The school invites anyone from the community to take part in their workshops and play with materials that will hopefully spark an interest in the art.

“There aren’t any other facilities outside of academic facilities that have kilns like this in the area.”

The PSZ Clay Center will be a great place for graduates with a degree in ceramics to have a place to rent space.

Opening night at the center is June 3rd.
