Treat Mom to barbeque chicken while support a local fire department

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A 58-year-old Mother’s Day tradition returns in Washington Township with the Chicken Barbeque event.
The Washington Fire Department will be selling barbecue chicken dinners via drive-thru at their station. The $10 dinner consists of half a chicken, cole slaw, applesauce, rolls with butter, chips, and a dessert.
“Started in 1968 and every year our township residents who greatly support us throughout the year, come and it gives us a chance, we get to see our residents. So, starting at 11 o’clock on Sunday, we’re going to have all of our crew here, their spouses, and relatives and so forth, as well as 4-H groups here to help serve the residents of Washington Township and the surrounding areas with a chicken dinner,” Fire Chief Josh Snouffer said.
Snouffer says getting to connect with the community and seeing their support for the fire department is his favorite part of the tradition. You can treat Mom to a great dinner while also supporting the fire deparment through a fundraiser that’s only 3 years younger than the station itself.
“Like I say, it got started in 1968, and it’s a fundraiser for the fire department to purchase equipment. Items to train with and so forth and this year we’re looking to get some new turnout gear for our firefighters to keep them safe,” Snouffer said.
The fire chief said they will be preparing 1,250 chicken dinners for Mother’s Day. The drive-thru opens at 11 a.m. and concludes when they run out of chicken dinners on a first-come, first-served basis.
