Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office system update

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of updating technology.

The Sheriff’s Office recently signed an agreement with Tyler’s New World, SoftCode, and Brazos for efficiency and convenience. Sheriff Matt Lutz said the new technology will help with communication between them and their partners, for example the Muskingum County Court System.

“It will be able to scan the driver’s license for like stations and accidents and that stuff can be downloaded right into the officers laptop computer and then print,” Lutz said. “A ticket can be printed off or an accident report can be printed off. We’ll actually have printers right in the cars and then the other thing about it is, that information can then be downloaded right to county court without us having to transport that stuff down.”

Another partner is the Zanesville Police Department.

“We’ll be able to search anybody that goes to the city jail and the city jail will be able to research anyone or anything that goes through our county jail,” Lutz said. “So in today‘s world it’s vitally important to share information with other agencies especially with the suspects and criminals we deal with.”

According to Lutz currently every division has to hand type every update, but with Tyler Technologies they’ll be able to provide them the capability to share all information.

“It’s going to start at Dispatch with our computer aided dispatch system,” Lutz said. “The dispatchers will have a lot more information at their fingertips that they can use and then obviously when you start putting it in. You know the system we’re getting it will automatically transport it to other divisions for them to use.”

In a few years the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office would like to connect and share information with Licking County Sheriff’s Office since they already have the Tyler Technology System.

“Again in today‘s world the criminals have no jurisdictional boundaries,” said Lutz. “They travel across county lines all the time. So the people we’re dealing with down here or they’re dealing with up there. We’re dealing with each other. So that is just going to be one big advantage to it as well.”

Sheriff Lutz thanks the Muskingum County Commissioners for supporting the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and helping keep their technology up to date. The setup process for the new computer system has started and Lutz said that it will take about a full year to get implemented, do data transfers, and get everyone trained.
