ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zane State College Foundation kicked of its 9th annual Women’s Golf Outing with help from a couple seasoned professionals.

Former LPGA golfer and Zanesville native Michele Redman along with the help of former PGA golfer Mike Durant gave demonstrations and interacted with participants during the event aimed at helping raise scholarship funds for female students attending Zane State College. According to Redman, although she was quite busy near the beginning, she was ultimately able to see the importance in this event.

“When we first started this event, I was still on tour at the time and it was my mom that really pushed me to help out,” said Redman. “At first I was skeptical because I was already so busy but now it’s one of the best things that I get to do.”

The outing, which raised nearly $30,000 last year, featured other activities such as a putting contest, a golf clinic, and even a 50/50 drawing to close out the day. While the main attraction may have been the outing itself, the main goal of the day was to help give back to women in need.

“My favorite part about this event is giving back to the community because, at times, I don’t think there is enough of that and that’s ultimately what life is all about,” said Redman. “For me, it’s nice to be able to help young women because I wouldn’t be where I am today if people didn’t do the same for me.”

According to Redman, this event is always nice because it not only provides her with a chance to help the community, but also catch up with old friends.

“I have the easiest part because I get to come in and entertain people for a little bit and interact with people that I haven’t seen for a whole year,” said Redman. “It’s nice coming back to my hometown because this is one of the only opportunities I have to give back anymore and it really means a lot to me.”
