ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A used computer and TV collection was held today at the Muskingum County Recycling Center on Old Adamsville Road.

Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District Coordinator Mike Reiter shared how many of today’s electronics are full of components that aren’t compliant with landfill regulations and must be recycled instead of thrown away.

“Today’s event is an electronics collection for Muskingum County,” Reiter said. “We take TVs, Stereo equipment, anything that is electronic… converters, battery packs. We have a whole list on our website at wasteabate.org of the items we take today. Everything’s recycled. E-Scrap’s our contractor in Cleveland that pulls all the precious metals out of everything. We’ve worked with them for a long time now.”

Residents dropped off their items, which were sorted and loaded onto trailers to be sent to the recycling facilities. Larger, electric appliances like microwaves, refrigerators, washers and driers will be collected during an upcoming recycling event.

“The appliance collection will be here July 14th, same address. It’s from 9 to 3, same as this one. All freon brand appliances, all white goods, which is your washer, driers, dehumidifiers, scrap metal. All the freon brand appliances we pack and transport to Cincinnati, to William Thomas Group for the freon to be vacced out of them. So it’s recycled and all the scrap metal is sent to Muskingum Iron and Metal to be recycled,” Reiter said.
