All Shook Up holds “Shoot Par for Parkinson’s” outing

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Not every golfer was all shook up about the rain on Friday night.
12 teams still made their way out to Vista Golf Course Saturday morning in support of the ‘Shoot Par for Parkinsons’ Golf Outing, hosted by Zanesville’s Parkinson’s Group “All Shook Up.” Secretary Robert Swanson says they use the outing to raise funds for equipment for the group.
“This our third annual ‘Shoot Par for Parkinson’s’ golf tournament, we’re glad to have everybody. We’ve got 12 teams here. The monies that we raise, I haven’t got a figure on how much money we’ve raised, but the money we [raise], we put it back into our account to set down and help buy equipment and other things that we need for our group,” explained Swanson.
Swanson adds that they are trying to raise awareness about the positive effects that exercise can have on symptoms for those suffering from the disease.
“People just don’t realize how it affects you. It affects your speech, it affects your mobility, your balance…and what we’re trying to do is make an awareness that there is a group here, and that it is a proven fact that exercise does help Parkinson’s,” Swanson added.
The All Shook Up group consists of approximately 35-40 members. The group meets Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 at the IBEW, and Thursdays from 10 to 11 at the OU-Zanesville/Zane State Aquatic Center; they invite anybody that has Parkinson’s to come out and participate in their exercise activities with them. They also invite the public to come out and see what exactly their group does, and show people what those suffering from the disease are capable of.
Swanson thanked the community, the participants, and sponsors for supporting the event and making it possible. He also thanks Bill’s BBQ for providing lunch for all those in attendance.
