ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Library System’s annual Summer Reading Challenge is designed to spark interest and innovation by means of imagination.

MCLS Director of Marketing and Community Relations Sean Fennell announced an upcoming event that encourages Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics through medieval mythology.

“So the Dragon Training Academy program that is coming up this Thursday is one of our large Summer Reading programs,” Fennell said. “So you can expect really incredible animatronics, some very cool interactive things that you can do as well. And just a really fun, family centered event that is geared to bring people into the library, get people registered and engaged with what’s happening here during this exciting time for the library, which is Summer Reading.”

The Dragon Training Academy is an hour-long session led by Time Traveler Brock Barnabas, who will be appearing at the South Branch Library on Thursday, June 25th, followed by appearances at the Duncan Falls Branch at 2 and the Roseville Branch at 5:30 p.m.

“The program itself will talk a lot about the science based techniques that you can kind of learn to problem solve in a very fun way,” Fennell said. “In this case, I believe that we are asking participants to help a dragon that was accidentally summoned in the library. So you know we need to have the kids come in. So what’s going to happen is that you’re going to be using these kind of scientific theories and methods to solve this problem.”

Kids of all ages will need to be registered for the event by visiting the library’s website. And if there is a waiting list, you can call the library at (740) 453-0391 to learn about the options that are available toward attending the free event.
