ZANESVILLE, OH – Republican candidate for Ohio governor, Vivek Ramaswamy, made a stop in Zanesville today, meeting with community members at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl. WHIZ’s Shylin Costello caught up with him during his visit.

“I love Zanesville. I’ve heard great things about Tom’s including from good friends of mine who love coming out here. There’s a great crowd on a rainy day, and I wanted to make sure that we’re visiting the small towns in the state.” Ramaswamy said.

Saturday’s stop is one of several Ramaswamy has made across Ohio as he continues campaigning. During our conversation, he said communities like Zanesville play an important role in the state’s future.

“It’s not my first time in Zanesville. It’s easily our 3rd or 4th time here I would say. But I want to keep coming back because the success of Ohio isn’t just about the three C’s. It includes small towns, it includes rural communities, and Zanesville is a special place. So, we’ll keep coming back.” Ramaswamy said.

With the 4th of July just one week away, and the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration underway, I also asked Ramaswamy what the milestone means to him.

“It means a lot to me. My story would not be possible in any other country on earth. We’re the greatest country known to the history of mankind.” Ramaswamy said. “It’s not just a celebration, it’s a reminder of our duty to this country. A moral obligation to keep this as the shining city on a hill that gives hope to the free world. That’s who we are. And I think we should remember that. That’s what we’re going to be celebrating while we watch the celebrations and the parades and the fireworks.”

Ramaswamy will face Democratic nominee, Amy Action, in Ohio’s gubernatorial election.
