ZANESVILLE, OH- This Week’s Dog of the Week won’t go breaking your heart.

Meet Elton John! He’s a two-year-old black lab mix, who’s neutered, does well with kids as well as other dogs, and is singing his little heart out trying to find his forever family.

Doug McQuaid, a Volunteer at the K-9 Adoption Center, says this Tiny Dancer came to them as a stray and they have quickly found out he can carry a tune, shake, and even lay down.

“We often noticed in his kennel he’s howling and so forth, what better of a name to go with something like that!” McQuaid said. “We found out he walks very well on a leash, does great with kids, other pets, cats, dogs, that way is just fabulous. He went to foster to adopt but actually we found out some more things about him. The staff would like for you, if it’s something that you’re interested in, to give them a call.”

The K-9 Adoption Center is also looking for volunteers to work with the pups at the Center as well as fosters.

McQuaid says fosters are a very valuable resource because it can give the dogs a chance to calm down and see how they behave in a household setting compared to the hustle and bustle of a shelter.

It can also free up some space within a shelter, which is desperately needed because the K-9 Adoption Center is at maximum capacity heading into the 4th of July Holiday.

“Right now, we have a full house and we’re headed towards the 4th of July, that’s not very good.” McQuaid said. “So many people have pups lost in the shelter life across the county when it comes to 4th of July times, become very full and have nowhere for our dogs to go. So we often like to talk about microchipping, microchipping is actually the easiest way for you to have your dog, to have you contacted and have your dog returned to you.”

McQuaid also advises with the hot temperatures in our forecast for the rest of the week, to make sure pet care is your top priority.

He says to make sure your dogs have fresh, cool water in a non-metal bowl and to make sure you change it frequently so your furry friends stay hydrated.
