The Muskingum Behavioral Health receives addiction recovery grant

Muskingum Behavioral Health

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Muskingum Behavioral Health will soon receive special funding to help youth tackle addiction.

The Ohio Citizen Advocates established a mini-grant that aims to help youth ages 26 to 12 to get and remain in recovery as well as prevent the need for recovery. Muskingum County was one of four communities in Ohio to receive grant and CEO Steve Carrel believed Muskingum County was chosen based on unique ideas.

“I think they picked us because we had the novel idea of doing focus groups and serving young people before we do anything. We also proposed in our model that the young people would be the leaders and the adults would be the advisors only.”

Carrel hopes the youth involved will be able to fully recover while learning critical life skills. Carrel also added that because of this funding, more voices of recovery will be able to be heard so that it might help struggling addicts.
