Zanesville Quarterback Club annual golf fundraiser
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- 13 teams of two braved the storms to be out on the golf course to raise money for the Zanesville High School Football team.
The annual event occurs as a means to offset some of the high cost for the football team. Head Coach Chad Grandstaff said sponsors and events like this are what make the football season possible.
“On Friday Nights, when the kids run out of the tunnel, each kid is wearing about $950 worth of gear,” said Coach Grandstaff. “If you times that by 50 kids, that’s a lot of money. The people who have that sponsor the football program or provide us some type of support serves for us we really appreciate it, and it really goes a long way. Especially when we try to put our kids in the best of the best to help with the safety concerns of every athlete we put out there on the field.”
There were numerous prizes for those competing, such as a $10,000 hole-in-one challenge. Coach Grandstaff said the great prizes help bring people to the course, but the prizes are not the primary reason why people came to play golf in a downpour.
“There’s a lot of money involved for those golfers who have a chance to win,” said Coach Grandstaff. “Most of these people however, do it to give back to the program. We have former football players here, former coaches, current players and coaches so, it gives guys a chance to reunite and talk about their blue devil days or people who support the program.”
Coach Grandstaff wants to thank everyone who came out to play and the sponsors who allow Zanesville Football to be a success.
