City takes action on demolished Lear Corp. property

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Legal action has been taken for one major eye sore in Zanesville.
The former Lear Corporation property on Linden Avenue has been a half-demolished heap of rubble for over two years.
City of Zanesville building inspector and code enforcement official, Tim Smith, said the property owner was not truthful with their intentions for the land.
“They were going to basically deconstruct one building at a time, salvage and sell the material out of it, and then rebuild and keep relocating tenants; that was their intent. But that was not really their intent, that was their sale,” said Smith.
The roughly 35-acre property is owned by Pelican Land Holding, a Virginia based company. The area had seven buildings and hosted a number of tenants including Bloomer Candy Company.
However, the city is fed up with the sight it has left behind, and have filed complaints in hopes of getting the mess cleaned up.
“Right now we’re filing affidavits with the municipal court on a daily basis, seeking daily penalties for what we have here, so hopes are that we can spur some activity and actually get this clean up started,” said Smith.
The Mosaic Tile Property on Pershing Road also faces the same course of action. That property is owned by Catfish LLC, based out of Maryland.
