Rumpke Reopens

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Rumpke Waste and Recycling reopened its Zanesville Transfer Station to the general public after being damaged by a May, 2025 fire.  

Rumpke’s Zanesville Operations Manager Shawn O’Nail talked about how important the facility is to not only Rumpke but the residents of Muskingum County. 

“This transfer station is one of 28 in our… footprint. This facility allows for easy access for local haulers, local… the general public to bring their waste and construction needs to be able to dispose of it quickly and efficiently,” O’Nail said.

The transfer station allows commercial and construction rubbish to be separated from residential garbage in addition to providing a central hub for more efficient transportation. The rebuild includes a state of the art fire suppression system.

“We’ve employed Fire Rover. We’ve used it in other of our facilities and had great success with it. Essentially it’s a monitoring system. It can determine hot spots before they start, fires start. It’s monitored 24/7 and there’s actually a fire nozzle inside the building that can reach all square footage of the building. It will be deployed if there’s a fire determined. And at the same time it’s being actively put out, we at Rumpke are being notified and so is the local fire department,” O’Nail said.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to bring their large, bulky materials to the Adamsville Road facility between 7 and 4, Monday through Friday for faster and easier disposal.
