Maddy’s Cat Rescue: Finding Forever Homes
CAMBRIDGE, OH – August 8th is International Cat Day, and one Cambridge nonprofit is giving our feline friends something worth celebrating; a second chance.
At Maddy’s Cat Rescue, behind every purr, playful pounce, and tiny paw is a second chance. What started in 2022 with rescuing a few kittens has grown into a Cambridge based 501 (C) (3) nonprofit. Maddy started the rescue when she was just 21 years old, and in just four years, it’s become a safe place for cats and kittens across Guernsey County waiting to find forever homes.
“I started taking in kittens here and there. There’s just so many. A lot of people don’t realize just how many cats there are around here. I just started taking them in and I really enjoyed it and became really passionate about saving cats.” Maddy, who owns the rescue, said.
That passion turned into Maddy’s Cat Rescue. Today, the rescue is home to about 30 kittens or cats, each waiting for a family to call their own.
“I take in a lot of unwanted kittens. There’s about 30 in here right now. We take them, fully vet them, and adopt them out,” she explained.
At just 24 years old, Maddy hopes her story inspires others to believe that making a difference can start with something small.
“I just graduated with a high school diploma. I have worked in the vet field since I was 16, so that’s helped me do this. It’s just nice to show young people that even if you want to start out small, you can eventually do something very impactful,” she said.
