ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Animal Shelter Society had Clear the Shelter Day a while back and now they’re filling up again.

Recently the Rottweiler Taylor was brought to the shelter, house trained and surrendered only because her previous owners had too many animals. Assistant Director, Charity Stevens acknowledged that Taylor is sweet and friendly, but is very timid and scared when in her kennel.

“Once she’s out of the kennel, as you can see she meets other people fairly easily,” Stevens said. “When you guys walked in she was ready and eager to meet you. I think it’s just the barrier of the kennel, all the dogs out there, so many smells, so many people walking by and looking at her. She just gets a little intimidated.”

Taylor is up to date on her shots and will go through her surgery the week of September 11, 2017. The Animal Shelter Society had almost every dog adopted after the Clear the Shelter event and since then only two were returned with one re-adopted. So the kennel is full of new dogs.

“We do have dogs available for adoption,” said Stevens. “Approximately we have 50 to 55 dogs, that is dogs and puppies. So don’t forget to stop out and look at what we have available. We also have cats.”

Local businesses and organizations will be receiving letters from the Animal Shelter Society about their annual auction on October 21, 2017.

“We are now accepting donations for that auction,” Stevens said. “The auction is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and that’s what helps support our operations for the facility and help take care of all these animals.”

Donations can be dropped off at the Animal Shelter during business hours and tickets are now for sale at the Shelter.
