Muskingum drops conference opener

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – In front of a big home crowd the Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they beat Muskingum in the Muskies’ first conference and road test of the season 41-27.
Otterbein set the tone early. They scored on the first offensive play of the game on a 55 yard pass from Logan Stepp to Hunter Joseph. Those two would hook up for the first three touchdowns of the game and Otterbein held a 27-0 advantage at half time.
Stepp, a converted wide receiver, threw for 307 of the 499 yards of total offense that Otterbein was able to put up. Turnovers killed any Muskingum momentum. Twice in the first half they gave the ball over to Otterbein while inside the Cardinal redzone.
The Muskies were able to push across three touchdowns in the final eight minutes of the game to close the gap. The final one coming from former Blue Devil tight end Granger Long. He caught a 15 yard score from freshman quarterback Brody Hahn. Hahn ran for 67 yards while also throwing for 364 and three touchdowns.
Otterbein stays undefeated while the Muskies move to 1-1. Muskingum plays their only night game of the season next Saturday. They’re in Bexley to take on Capital at 7 p.m.
