ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Pioneer School of Zanesville Clay Center is welcoming the community for an open house as part of the ‘First Friday Art Walk.’

Six ceramic artists from all over the country have spent the last two weeks creating clay based sculptures for the ‘School Works Art Exhibit’. Artist Doug Jeck explained the artist knew a few things about each others style and had brought their styles together for this show.

“Be together and work in a way that is sort of extra sensory, intellectual, conceptual, emotional, and extra process-oriented in a way that we normally wouldn’t do it in our own studios,” Jeck said. “We’ve built something that is bigger than the each of us, individually. I think that will show up in the room out there and throughout this space.”

The Open House took place from 8:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. on October 6, 2017 and following the exhibit the artists leave their residencies at the old Pioneer School and set off for new residencies or back to their own galleries.

“We’ve been able to come in and make a different kind of work that’s going to go back into our regular practice and into our gallery venues,” said Jeck. “Other things will become a part of the collection of the Pioneer School. A good residency program needs a collection to start off with. So some of those are going to stay here and will be a part of the collection.”

Jeck said the main show room, basement, and upstairs has ceramic sculptures displayed for the communities viewing.
