Local first responders honor 9/11 victims with annual walk
ZANESVILLE, OH- Twenty-five years later, the events of , 2001, are still being remembered by those who serve their communities.
, local first responders gathered at Newton Township Fire Department for the 10th annual Fallen First Responder Walk. The walk began at 8:46 a.m., the same time American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
First responders walked from the fire department to the South Zanesville Walmart, honoring the first responders who lost their lives on 9/11.
Some participants made the journey while wearing their firefighting gear, adding another layer of meaning to the tribute.
“It’s a remembrance of all the people that we lost, our brothers and sisters, and I want to keep the tradition going so no one ever forgets,” said Newton Township Fire Department Firefighter and Advanced EMT, Amanda Rush.
For those who take part, the walk is about more than remembering the past. It is also about making sure future generations understand the sacrifices made that day. Rush says she hopes the community continues finding ways to honor those who were lost.
“I hope that everybody is able to do something to remember everyone that we lost,” said Rush.
The walk is a tradition the department hopes will keep the memory of those lost on 9/11 alive for more years to come.
