Irishman’s Cross-Country Walk Makes Stop in Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, OH – Fergus Farrell is an Irishman with a big goal, to walk from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Santa Monica Pier in 3 months to raise awareness for those with spinal cord injuries.

Monday, September 14th, marked day 20 of his 4,500 kilometer journey with a stop here in Zanesville at the County Engineers office to rest.

He was told by doctors that he would never be able to walk because of his spinal cord injury, but here he is, defying the odds and bringing awareness to others experiencing the same thing.

“80,000 steps a day, 6 million steps across America, that’s what it’s going to take to do this and I suppose the reason we’re doing this is because there was a moment in my life where I couldn’t walk, I was paralyzed.” Farrell said. “I now understand the privilege of being able to put one foot in front of the other and that’s why I’m doing this challenge, to show people, you know, never give up, keep in the fight and it’s amazing where life can bring you if you just stay in the fight.”
