ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local non-profit has three support groups in Muskingum and Coshocton County to help people understand and cope with mental illness.

NAMI Six County has an afternoon support group every first Tuesday of the month, an evening support group every third Tuesday of the month, and Coshocton County has a support group every third Monday evening.

“The format that we use for our meetings is to have a guest speaker who will address some facet of mental illness or services that are available in our community,” Executive Director Paul Quinn said. “Then the group stays after the speaker to discuss our individual situations.”

The NAMI support groups are free and led by trained family members of individuals living with mental illness. Quinn said these meetings are confidential and useful for all who have family members dealing with a mental illness.

“So we sometimes need coping strategies or new ways of communicating, so that we can try to reach them,” Quinn said. “That’s the kind of information we can share, we learn. So that we’re better equipped to interact with our loved ones who are mentally ill.”

The Zanesville Afternoon Support Group meets at the John McIntire Library at 1:00. Zanesville’s evening support group is at Trinity United Presbyterian Church at 7:00. While Coshocton’s is at 7:00 in the Grand Central Station room at the Coshocton Regional Medical Center.

NAMI Six County is also excepting registrations for their free 12 week Family-To-Family classes held at Trinity United Presbyterian Church every Friday starting on January 12, 2017. For more information on the Family-To-Family program follow this link.
