Scotties start slow, win big over New Lex

DRESDEN, Ohio — It wasn’t the prettiest first eight minutes in Dresden, but the Scotties bounced back from a slow start to defeat New Lexington 62-25 on Tuesday night.
New Lexington’s Seth Russell opened the game with two baskets for the Panthers, and little did he know that it would be enough to put them in-front after the opening quarter. Sloppy play and missed shots from Tri-Valley helped New Lex to a 4-3 lead after the first.
In the second quarter though, the Scotties kept up the same effort on the defensive end, but finally started hitting some shots. Senior Jake Mcloughlin scored the first seven points of the second quarter to put Tri-Valley in front 10-4, and the result was never in question from there.
Tri-Valley held the Panthers to just two second-quarter points, and lead 19-6 after the second quarter, before holding a 40-18 lead going into the final frame.
Matt King, after leading Tri-Valley with his sharp-shooting in Monday night’s win over Philo, backed up this performance with four more three-pointers on Tuesday night, and 18 points to lead the Scotties.
Tri-Valley is now 10-1 in league-play and remain in first-place in the MVL. They play again on Saturday when they host Sheridan, who has won nine-straight games and sit just one loss behind the Scotties for first place.
New Lexington plays Sheridan in their next game as well, when they travel to Thornville to battle the Generals on Friday night.
