National Stop the Bleed Day training coming up

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- If you came across someone bleeding from an injury in need of medical attention, would you know what to do?
National Stop the Bleed Day is coming up on March 31st and Genesis Hospital is offering a free training to teach the public how to stop bleeding. Stop the Bleed helps decrease the chances of mortality from gunshot wounds, power tools, and other injuries.
“Stop the Bleed Day is a national awareness campaign that was put forth by the White House in October 2015,” said Dr. Stuart Chow, D.O. at Genesis HealthCare System. “Basically it’s a grassroot effort to help empower and train bystanders to stop bleeding and save people’s lives before professional help can arrive.”
The program was started after the Sandy Hook School shooting took the lives of 20 kids. With this training participants will be armed with the tools and skills to stop uncontrollable bleeding.
“The kit includes a tourniquet and that is the one main device that can save a life,” said Dr. Chow. “It is estimated that 35% of people die before arriving to the hospital because of bleeding and if you can stop the bleeding you can save a life.”
There will be three training sessions that will place at Genesis HealthPlex from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. To register or for more information visit Genesis’ website. Youth are welcome to attend the training, but parental discretion is advised as some of the content could be mature.
