Dog reunited after being lost

Dog Reunited

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A dog named Charlie was lost at a farm in Morgan County and has now been found in Muskingum County and reunited with her family. Here’s the story of how a lost family member was returned home told by the people who lived through it.

“We took her down to our family farm for Fourth of July. And we brought her kennel because we knew that they were skittish around fireworks and we always set off our own. The kids got out the firecrackers earlier than expected,” said Emily Sheridan.

“Later on that night, we were trying to find her to put her away for the fireworks and we just couldn’t find her. We figured the fire crackers scared her off. It was hard to leave the farm that year. After a year and a half, you’re kind of thinking the worst like you’re hoping someone took her in but out in the middle of nowhere you don’t really know for sure,” said Sheridan.

“On intake, we scan all of the dogs to see if their microchipped and she was microchipped. So we got the number, got the contact, and when we found out, she’d actually been missing for a year and a half,” said Deputy Dog Warden Brittany Calihan.

“We have no idea how she ended up in Zanesville,” said Sheridan.

“Someone might have picked her up as she is a hound, she could have just smelled something and was on the trail. It could be anything,” said Calihan.

“Zanesville is like 45 minutes to an hour just from this house When she came out of that dog wardens office, I didn’t even recognize her. She gained probably about 20 pounds of just muscle. If it wasn’t for that little spot on the back of her, I would been like that’s not our dog because she was this lean old pup when we had her. And she came back the Incredible Hulk,” said Sheridan.

“That’s why it’s important to microchip your dog. As soon as we scanned her, it popped up and all the information came back to the owner. So, we were able to get ahold of the owner,” said Calihan.

“Now I microchip him, kind of right after the whole thing happened. We’re big proponents of microchip, all of them, because you just never know what’s going to happen. Don’t give up hope if you did microchip your dog and you didn’t hear anything, because you still might get a call,” said Sheridan.

“It’s like the movies, that’s all I can say,” said Calihan.

“She went right back to laying at my dad’s feet and laying at the spot next to the chair just like she used to. She went right back to laying on the stairs on the landing. You’ve never seen a dog more grateful to be home,” said Sheridan.

“It’s like she never left,” said Sheridan.
