The Lion King Jr. at The Renner

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- 56 children performed The Lion King Jr. in front of a sold-out crowd at The Renner Theatre.
Lion King Jr is a theatre version of the famous Disney movie The Lion King with a childish twist. All the actors were between second and ninth grade. Director Kari Scott said being a part of this play has been a wonderful experience.
“I’m a music teacher at Philo and I have done that for many years and it was my natural calling just to direct a show with kids,” said Scott.
Scott said the age rule comes from Disney and gives kids an incredible opportunity to be part of the theatre world. She said Lion King has been one of her favorite Disney productions for years and there are several twists on the story.
“We have Timon and Pumbaa with us right here and they are our comic relief in this great story about tragedy and triumph. We took our actors and we put them in dance roles. We have taken a little spin on it and we put makeup on the kids rather than headdresses or other things to try and transform them,” said Scott.
The show sold out six times and had 75 people on the waitlist to try to get tickets.
