Zanesville Hotel Forced to Close
A Zanesville area hotel has been closed by the State of Ohio. State Fire Marshall Jeff Hussey says the former Holiday Inn off the Airport Road exit, which changed names multiple times, has been shut down due to fire code and sanitation issues. Hussey says his office issued a Serious Hazard Order and everyone was ordered to vacate the hotel on Monday. His office had an ongoing code enforcement case for the last year-and-a-half. The Fire Marshall says there were over 50 fire code or sanitation violations that included significant mold in the building, faulty fire alarms and smoke detectors and exposed wires. Hussey added the owner and management team did not have a current hotel license. He says it’s rare for the state to shut down a hotel, but it does happen. Hussey says last week there were about a dozen occupants of the hotel and the state helped those find new accommodations.
